Drupal is increasingly being used for large projects that need to provide solutions for different markets with different languages. This context presents several challenges for the whole team at different levels. At DrupalCon Prague 2022, we presented a case study on our successful project with Nestle Professional. In this session, we will dive deeper into the technical aspects of building multi-market/multi-language Drupal sites, given that it is a very common scenario, as we have seen from audience feedback.

Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the technical considerations involved in architecting multi-market/multi-language Drupal sites.
  • Gain knowledge of which modules and configurations will help you build solutions for these scenarios.
  • Provide a deep technical view of how to solve these challenges based on our experience.

Topics Covered:

  • When and why to use a multi-market/multi-language approach for a project.
  • Common scenarios and how to address them:
    • What is a market? How Domain and its module ecosystem can help.
    • Language and market detection.
    • How to define an editorial process that is easy to follow in a multi-market scenario, including defining content restrictions based on domain capabilities.
    • Defining dedicated configurations for specific markets only.
    • Restricting languages per market and their implications.
    • SEO considerations to keep in mind and how to address them.

Target Audience: This session is intended for a technical audience familiar with Drupal who want to dive deeper into the technical considerations for building multi-market/multi-language sites. Attendees should have experience with Drupal development and a basic understanding of Drupal.

Speaker biography

I'm a backend developer highly focused on Drupal development since 2012. Since then I've been involved on several projects most of them based on Drupal 7/8/9. The past 2 years I've been working on projects meant to provide solutions on a Multimarket/Multilanguage context.
I'm activly involved on the community since long time ago being part of the organization of the DrupalDevDays Seville 2017, and the Drupal local groups on the cities where I've lived (Sevilla & Málaga).
